HUNTINGTON BEACH, California/USA (Sunday, March 25, 2018) – Finals day of the World Surf League (WSL) Men’s Qualifying Series (QS) Jack’s Surfboards Pro QS 1,500 has been called back ON for an 8:00 a.m. PST start. Two-to-three foot windswell pushes into Huntington Beach Pier’s southside as an event winner will be decided by the day’s final horn. An intense marathon weekend culminates with one last spring to the end, as the victor must surf five heats if he’s to claim the win.
“We’ve powered through this one and there’s one more marathon day left so whoever gets the win here is really deserving,” WSL North America Tour Manager Brian Robbins said. “There’s still some waves on offer despite the wind getting on it early with two-to-three foot surf coming through. We can’t thank Jack’s Surfboards enough for putting this one for the competitors for the second year and we’ll have our winner by the end of the day. Good luck to all our competitors.”
Action gets underway as event standouts Takumi Yasui (JPN) and Kevin Sculz (USA) will have Miyu Furukawa (JPN) and Luke Gordon (USA) to battle with in Round 4 Heat 1.
Round 4 Heat 2 features local hero Brett Simpson (USA) takes on fellow Californian Parker Coffin (USA), along with Brazilians Phillippe Chagas (BRA) and Gabriel Farias (BRA).
A former Championship Tour (CT) bout is on between Alex Ribeiro (BRA) and Nathan Yeomans (USA), along with Tales Araujo (BRA) and Namor Cayres (BRA) in Round 4 Heat 5.
Lone Hawaiian Lahiki Minamishen (HAW) must deal with a powerful Californian contingent in John Mel (USA), Jake Marshall (USA), and Ian Crane (USA) to wrap up Round 4 Heat 8.
